I have applied to Adventures in Missions and have been accepted into the “First Year Missionary Program”, which takes place in South Africa. I will be going with a team of people with a passion for missions like myself. Our adventure starts with a lot of training, with the focus on receiving “practical, intensive ministry training on the mission field.” Throughout our time there, we will be trained, guided and mentored every step of the way. We’ll have opportunities to carry out our own ministry techniques, getting to know the community and practicing what we’ve learned. During this time, we will focus on God’s purpose for our lives. Our objective is to learn how to lead like Christ and to play an active role in the Body of Christ.
I have wanted to go to Africa since I was very young. I can’t be certain of what God has planned for me, but I am sure He has something for me in Africa. He placed the desire for missions in my heart at a young age. We all know that Africa is a continent on fire, facing several struggles with poverty and war, government, the AIDS pandemic, unimaginable cruelties, and more. My dream is that nations like Africa will be supported by surrounding nations who have the power to help, as well as by its youth and its people. My dream is to make a difference with what I’ve been given, even if it’s only in one person’s life. If God can accomplish that through me, then it’s all worth it.
The total cost of my trip from September, 2008 to May, 2009 will be about $7000. What would really help with the expenses is monthly pledges. The donor may decide the start date and end date of their donation, and break it down as they would like. For example, if only 4 people decided to pledge $100 every month I was away, that would be almost half of the expenses. My goal in this is to give as many people as I can the chance to participate in what God is doing across the world. I am hoping this will inspire even more people to get involved. There are many different ways to give. For my teammates and I, the greatest need is for prayer: for the money we will be raising, for the time we will be spending in Africa, and for the work this ministry is going to accomplish.
I have enclosed a response card and pre-addressed envelope, which invites you to share in this ministry. Please pay close attention to the line asking for pledges, you can decide your start date and end date. If you make a pledge, please fill those dates out. Please make checks payable to Adventures In Missions. The enclosed card MUST be included as that will provide AIM with all necessary information. In turn, they will send you a receipt. They require that I have 60% of my funds before I leave and the rest of the funds can be in pledges. They will keep track of my pledges by what is indicated on the card. Please note that a one-time gift is also an option. Adventures In Missions is a registered non-profit organization. Donors will receive receipts for their gifts with the understanding that the disbursement of those gifts lies completely at the discretion of Adventures In Missions and that the gifts are non-refundable and non-transferable. Gifts are tax deductible; please keep your receipts.
God is leading me into this land and I cannot pass up a chance to see what He has planned. The Bible promises that God will use us in ways we could never even imagine, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us...” (Ephesians 3:20). Please be a part of this with me.
